We were delighted to welcome the Chelsea Pensioners to a match. With some skillful driving, the coach was reversed all the way down to the bowls green and 24 Pensioners alighted in their ‘Scarlets’ accompanied by their Colonel.
The unit ranged in age from 68 to 96 years, all very active bowlers. The oldest gentleman was a Burma veteran; also present was an 87 year old ex WRAC lady.
Despite the unsettled weather. A very convivial afternoon’s bowling ensued with much banter. Hellingly emerged narrow winners but were promised a different result on the return match in Chelsea next year.
